Our national organiser Fiona Swarbrick has sadly moved on from the NUJ after nearly two decades of service.
Fiona has been National Organiser for our sector as well books and magazines for over 15 years and she was a national executive member prior to working for the union.
She has been a brilliant servant to the union and this branch during that time, helping to organise in numerous workplaces, assisted hundreds of members with personal cases and encouraged dozens of us including officers of this branch to get more involved in the union.
The last branch meeting gave a unanimous vote of thanks and a £50 giftcard for John Lewis and some flowers which will be sent to her as soon as possible.
Branch chair, John Millington said: “Fiona has been a stalwart of the NUJ and is one of the best officers I have worked with in the trade union movement. She encouraged me to become more involved in the union and I know there are many other activists who feel the same way.
Secretary of the branch, Natasha Wright said: “We will miss Fiona who has provided tremendous support to this branch. She has always promoted women within the NUJ and inspired myself and others to take up positions within the union, to make sure we are a force to be reckoned with in society.”
